Let’s face it: emergencies happen. While it would be nice if emergencies occurred during the hours that most medical practices were open, that is often not the case. In fact, if Murphy’s Law has taught us anything, it’s that health emergencies are most likely to arise at the least convenient times.

This is why the board-certified surgeons of Deen-Gross Eye Centers in Merrillville offer emergency eye care, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. At our vision center, you and your family are our foremost priority. If you experience a problem with your eyes or your vision at any time, day or night, you can count on us to provide expert diagnosis and treatment. You don’t have to wait for our doors to open because our doors are always open to patients in need.

What Constitutes an Eye Emergency?

No part of your body is more delicate than your eyes. When it comes to your eyes and your precious vision, it is always best to err on the side of caution. Don’t try to self-diagnose or figure out whether your ocular problem is severe enough to contact us. Simply contact us, and we’ll accommodate you immediately.

You should contact our vision center, day or night, if you or a member of your family experiences:

Whatever you do, do not try to treat yourself. Refrain from rubbing your eye or putting medication in the affected eye. It is vital that you contact our eye care center immediately and not attempt to relieve your pain or remove any foreign objects on your own. We will help you and take every precaution to ensure the health and safety of your eye.

During your emergency visit, we will perform whatever work needs to be done to address your immediate ocular problem and relieve any adverse symptoms. We will schedule a follow-up appointment for any non-emergency procedure that needs to be performed and to check on the progress of your healing.

Again, please do not self-diagnose or attempt to treat yourself. Doing so could seriously compromise your ocular health or even result in the permanent loss of vision. If you have to ask whether you have a true eye emergency or not, don’t spend a moment trying to arrive at the “correct” answer. Call us immediately at (219) 769-8989, and we’ll inform you of what to do from there.
